Junior League of Berkshire County Announces Programs for 2006/2007

October 06, 2006 -
Pittsfield, Mass. – The Junior League of Berkshire County (JLBC), in existence since 1933, has approved its slate of programs for 2006 – 2007 and seeks new members to join its organization.

The Junior League’s programs for the upcoming year include funding and serving as mentors for the National Girls Incorporated program, Discovery Leadership. Discovery Leadership is a program for at-risk teenage girls serviced at Girls Inc. of the Berkshires, a program of the Gladys Brigham Community Center. Other JLBC programs for the year include: conducting a program to help curb childhood obesity, providing gifts at the holidays for children residing at the Hillcrest Educational Center and awarding a $1500 scholarship to a deserving high school senior showing exemplary volunteer service.

“The Junior League of Berkshire County is excited about bringing strong women to at risk girls in our community for the third year in a row,” says Courtney Meisberger, President of the Junior League of Berkshire County. “We are also excited to be working with the Gladys Brigham Community Center as Gladys Brigham was a former president of the Junior League of Berkshire County,” says Meisberger.

“The girls will participate in a national leadership program run by the Girls Incorporated of the Berkshires program, conduct a community project of their own choosing and participate in activities designed by Junior League members to be fun and helpful” announce Kara Thornton and Melinda Walton, co-chairs of community programs for the Junior League of Berkshire County.

The leadership program supports girls in developing leadership skills, connecting with the community and providing a sense of empowerment and furthers the mission of the Junior League to develop the potential of women and to improve the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

The Junior League of Berkshire County is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The Berkshire County League is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, which is made up of 296 Junior Leagues in four countries involving more than 193,000 volunteer members.
