Junior League of Berkshire County Accepting Applications for the Nicole Wilson Beebe Memorial Scholarship
March 15, 2007 - The Junior League of Berkshire County is now accepting applications for the Nicole Wilson Beebe Memorial Scholarship for $1500. The award honors the memory of Nicole Wilson Beebe, a dedicated volunteer with the Junior League who died in childbirth. The award is given annually to recognize a female college bound high school student who has shown a commitment to the spirit of volunteerism.
The Junior League of Berkshire County (JLBC) is an organization of women committed to improving the quality of life in the community through initiatives benefiting the health and well being of women and children. They are members of the Association of Junior Leagues International, which is made up of 296 Junior Leagues in four countries involving more than 193,000 volunteer members.
The Junior League has a long history of service in Berkshire County. Next year will mark their 75th year of working to build a better community.
Completing their third year in a partnership with Girls Inc, the JLBC has continued their work with the Discovery Program; a mentoring
program for girls ages 10-18. Through this initiative, the league provides girls with an enriching and safe environment where they can encourage positive life choices while developing the participant’s leadership skills.
The JLBC also created a literacy program centered on reading just for the fun of it. Curl Up with a Good Book has visited several elementary schools countywide.
College bound High School Senior Girls interested in applying for the Nicole Wilson Beebe scholarship should see their school guidance counselors for application requirements. For more information, call 413-499-3850. Information is also available online www.jlbc.info/documents.
