Junior League’s “Done in a Day” Project Dedicated to Berkshire Children and Families, Inc.
PITTSFIELD, MA – Several Berkshire Children and Families programs will benefit from the Junior League of Berkshire County’s “Done in a Day” project taking place Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Redfield House, 48 Elizabeth Street, in Pittsfield.
“Done in a Day” projects are organized by provisional members of the Junior League and, in alignment with the Junior League’s mission, focus on events that will benefit the health and well-being of women and children.
This year’s event includes an interactive “story walk,” games and activities for parents and children in Berkshire Children and Families’ Redfield House, Family Literacy and Early Education and Care programs. Each family will also receive one or more books to add to their home libraries, as a result of a book drive that was also part of the “Done in a Day” project.
“We are very grateful that the Junior League’s provisional members have chosen to work with Berkshire Children and Families to create an event that will engage parents and children in the shared experience of enjoying books together,” Kelley DeLorenzo, BCF’s Assistant Director for Community-Based Programs, said. “Much of our work builds on the foundation that parents are their children’s first teachers. This thoughtfully-planned event is an expression of many areas we stress throughout our programs – parenting and child development, forging social connections, and building a platform for school success.”
The “Done in a Day” project was planned by Junior League provisional members Tammy Westlake, Christine Heaton and Candace Morey. Two books – The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle and Parts, by Tedd Arnold – will be explored using “story walks,” craft activities and healthy snacks. Up to 50 families from BCF’s programs are expected to participate.
